World Down Syndrome Day is on March 21st. This year’s Global theme is #EndTheStereotypes.
People are all different. Each person with Down syndrome is different. Each person with an intellectual disability is different. We don’t all act the same way or like the same things. We each have our individual identities, interests, likes and dislikes, gifts, and talents, just like everyone else. On this day we will join others worldwide in awareness & encourage our students to wear mismatched socks. This practice was created as a symbolic gesture which highlights how our chromosomes are shaped “like socks” and people with Down syndrome have an extra chromosome. People all over the world wear colorful, attractive, crazy socks on WDSD to get noticed. Let’s spread awareness and be a part of #EndTheStereotypes!
